This year, we are seeking your assistance to secure a major acquisition by iconic artist Yayoi Kusama titled, Narcissus Garden, 2024. Presented as part of Yayoi Kusama, the NGV’s landmark 2024-25 summer exhibition, Narcissus Garden will greet every visitor to the NGV and eventually be housed in The Fox NGV: Contemporary, Australia’s newest and largest home of contemporary art and design.

Consisting of 1,400 stainless steel spheres, each 30 cm in diameter the installation is as poignant for audiences today as it was when first conceived by the artist almost sixty years ago, and famously staged unofficially at the 1966 Venice Biennale. Narcissus Garden is a definitive work in Yayoi Kusama’s career and an important acquisition for the NGV Collection.
